CSP and Printeresting

Anthony Ryan, from the California Society of Printmakers

RL Tillman, from Printeresting

For the last six months, the CSP worked with Printeresting on our 2011 Journal. Printeresting were our Guest Editors on this labor of love.  As Printeresting says, "It’s a 32-page exploration of the relationship of print to internet with a long list of contributors. We’ve got it all: original writing, original print-related comics, artist profiles!" The CSP had a launch party when it came out, and RL Tillman from  Printeresting was able to come and talk about the process. You can purchase a copy of the print journal here, as we aren't sure when it will become an online PDF.

What's New?

I have a million opinions about stuff, and I troll the internet endlessly.
But when it comes to putting things out here?
Not so good at sharing.

Bike Parking

This week I've been using a new bike parking system
by  my train station. It's BikeLink (videos) and it is a little
metal cage that my bike is locked away in for the day. I have to say
though, that I had a harder time figure it all out the first time I
used it. The cages at my train station are "V" shaped and my
bike is not super-slender, so I have to make sure to load my bike
back wheel first.
In Japan, they have a much more hi-tech version of the bike parking system.

Colleen Atwood

Not necessarily a household name, Colleen Atwood is the costume designer
behindmost of Tim Burton's movies. She has worked on Edward Scissorhands, Ed Wood, Mars Attacks!, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd and the new  Alice in Wonderland, as well as many other Tim and non-Tim movies, including Gattaca and Lemony Snicket's, A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Obviously, I love her attention to detail, use of colors and monochromatics,
sumptuous fabrics like velvets and silks and embracing of Victorian era looks, with modern twists.

Today

The power went off this morning for about an hour,
the sun was shining...so we decided to drive to Union
City for doughnuts. And hobby stores. We came across
the RC track below.
Eventually, we ended up at Talbot's and picked up a a Crystal
Growing kit and a Hex bug, which the cats seem to be excited about!

One Saturday

I visited the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland/Piedmont
to take some photographs.

Sometimes.....

I just like to hang out at home.

Valentine Print

"Fast Loves on Fancy" a 3 color Letterpress print
I made for Valentines Day.The background color
was just a flat, the pattern was created from a polymer
plate, and the heart and birds design was a linocut. Printed on a Vandercook.

Asian-style meal

On Sundays I like to run to the grocery store and make
something a little more special for dinner that night.

Fried tofu with assorted stir-fry vegetables.

Second course, and star of the show,  was a

We went to L.A.

to catch the Pee Wee Herman show (which was awesome, BTW).

post-holidays

There was an unfortunate accident with my new ornament.

Brussels Sprouts

We made a dish from the Veganomicon one night,

the Braised Seitan with Brussels, Kale and Sun-Dried Tomatoes. While I spot the sun-dried tomatoes in there, I can't recall if we added Kale or just happened to have a million brussels sprouts instead. I remember it was good.

Fixed Orifice Press

I have new notebooks from Fixed Orifice Press up in my Etsy shop
the first one comes with a matching bookmark:

The next set are 2 smaller notebooks:

And last up is a new item, a set of 5 postcards, made from
photographs that I took in Japan and Paris.

Happy 2010

Even if I am late!
